Labor Day Weekend in the Twin Cities is almost upon us and that means it’s our last chance to enjoy a long, lazy summer weekend until next year. If you’re planning a trip by car, understand that Triple A is predicting the busiest Labor Day weekend on the roads in seven years. They say that they expect 35.5 million folks to hit the roads that weekend.

Kind of makes you want to stick close to home, doesn’t it? Since we’re still a week away from heading into the long weekend you’ve still got time to set some plans and we have a few suggestions.

Our local MLS releases its market statistics a month behind, so although these statistics are from July, 2015, they are considered the most recent numbers.

New Listings in Edina

Last month, the number of homeowners in Edina that decided to list their homes for sale inched up 2.5 percent, adding to the area’s inventory of available homes.

Median Sales Price in Edina

The median sales price of an Edina home decreased in July over July 2014’s median, to $393,615. This is also a decrease from the previous month’s $417,000. In fact, this is the third consecutive month

We haven’t figured out if there’s something in the water in Edina or what, but our schools are among the best in the state. Buying a home near an ISD 273 school assures that it will hold its value better than were you to purchase a home in a poor-performing school district.

This month we highlight another of Edina Public School District’s elementary schools, Cornelia Elementary. Serving nearly 560 students in grades K through 5, Cornelia employs 42 full-time teachers, giving it the lowest student-teacher ratio in the district, about 13:1.

Ratings and Test Scores

GreatSchools.org awards Cornelia nine stars out of a possible 10 and SchoolDigger.com gives it four out of five.

Munsinger Clements Gardens is one of the top spots in St. Cloud if you love beautiful plants. It's found along the Mississippi River and is located across from St. Cloud State University. You can enjoy the winding paths as you discover plenty of nature here.

Munsinger Gardens

Many different stages of development, along with plenty of improvements have gone into making Munsinger Gardens what it is today. It was once a sawmill, but was transformed over the years into the gardens. In 1938 there was a greenhouse built on the property for the first time. It has since been replaced with a new greenhouse, however. The gardens are full of beautiful flowers and plants you can enjoy whenever you visit.
