With the winter holidays approaching, life is about to get very busy for Edina parents. This is also family time, however, so check out our list of things to do with the kids this month.
Jingle Bell Run/Walk
A festive and fun event for the whole family, the Jingle Bell 5K Run/Walk gets underway on November 14, 2015 at the State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. Dress up in a holiday-themed costume and come on out to help fight arthritis. Find more information on Facebook.
Minnesota Wild vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
This one is happening this weekend, Saturday, November 7, at Excel Energy Center. If you can’t make this one, check out the Wild taking on the Winnipeg Jets on November 10 or when the Nashville Predators come to town on the 21st. The pre-Thanksgiving Day match against the Vancouver Canucks is almost sold out, but check here for tickets.
Minnesota Vikings vs. St. Louis Rams
Catch our Vikings when they meet the St. Louis Rams this Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium. The game starts at noon and you can get tickets here. There aren’t a whole lot of seats left so act quickly.
The Wizard of Oz
The Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis promises a rip-roaring holiday good time when you bring the family to their production of “The Wizard of Oz.” Enjoy the munchkins, the antics of Dorothy’s three new friends and, yes, those dastardly flying monkeys.
It’s a musical trip somewhere over the rainbow and you can hop aboard from now until January. View the calendar here.
Teach them to Give Back
As a parent, it’s easy to tell your children about morals and values but showing them is an entirely different thing. To lead by example is powerful and provides lifetime memories. There are a number of ways you can do that this month – and they’re fun for the whole family!
Make breakfast and lunch bags for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Upper Midwest. These bags aren’t just for the residents but also for the families to take to the hospital with them. This activity happens on Friday, November 27 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at kiddywampus at 1023 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN 55343. Bring the family, maybe some chips, granola bars, etc. to help fill the bags and show your kids what “awesome” looks like.
Sort, pack and label food for local food shelves with Second Harvest Heartland. Youth volunteers are always welcome on their own (parental waiver required) or with their families. The Golden Valley location is probably the most handy, so view the schedule and sign up to volunteer here. Second Harvest is located at 6325 Sandburg Rd. Suite 1700 in Golden Valley.
