The Stearns County Historical Society established in 1936. It wasn’t until 1973 that this society started arranging themselves into a museum. With the help of grants, the members were able to place their collected artifacts in a proper way. With this, they also began studying history within the community.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1982, and the construction of the museum began. The museum contains a variety of exhibits, galleries, research center, archives, kids play area, gift shop, and meeting rooms. It is a nationally accredited museum, and has come a long way throughout the years. Those who began the Stearns County Historical Society would never have thought it would be what it is today.
This museum is loved by residence in and around Stearns County. It has also been the historical society's mission to present a look into the past of Stearn County. With that came the eagerness to preserve past memorabilia to share with present day citizens.
Over the years, Stearns History Museum has provided displays, programs and activities that promote learning, entertain and bring encouragement to those who visit. This museum happens to be incorporated in with a 100-acre nature park, which has many walking trails, lots of wildlife, and a skater park.
The diversity of the museum caters to all treks of life. No matter the age or interest there is something to stimulate you at this unique museum. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 12am to 5pm. Adults admission fee is $7.00 and children cost $3.00.
