This month we’re shining the spotlight on another elementary school in the Edina Public School District, Creek Valley Elementary, serving 613 students, in grades K through 5. Creek Valley employs 36 full-time teachers, giving the school about a 16:1 student-teacher ratio.
Rankings and Test Scores
School ratings site SchoolDigger.com awards Creek Valley with its highest award, five out of five stars, ranking it 33rd of 820 elementary schools in Minnesota. GreatSchools.org gives Creek Valley nine stars out of a possible 10.
For three consecutive years, Creek Valley Elementary School’s 5th graders have beaten the district’s average on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments Series III exams (MCAIII) exams. In 2015, nearly 85 percent of these students met or exceeded the math exams, whilethe district’s average was 80.7 percent and the state’s only 59.7.
These 5th graders did well on the reading section as well, with 89.2 percent meeting or exceeding the standard. The district overall had 87.3 doing the same while the state’s score was 66.7. Finally, the students’ science scores bested both the district’s and the state’s as well. It’s safe to say that Creek Valley 5th graders are ready for middle school.
