Hudson, Wisconsin

Hudson, Wisconsin is a suburb of the Twin Cities in which you’ll find a historic downtown featuring local favorites and an excellent art scene. It’s only 20 minutes away from St. Paul. If you’re looking for more than chain store and restaurants, check out Hudson, WI for a few unique activities. Here are the best things to do for all ages in Hudson.

The Phipps Centre for the Arts

One thing Hudson has that is unique is The Phipps Centre for the Arts. It’s been around for 30 years and has become a favorite cultural and artistic activity for the community. Not only do they offer a visual arts center, but it’s a performing arts center, as well.

You can experience community theater, children’s theater, classes and workshops. People can enjoy visual arts classes, music series, a broad range of special events from jazz to classical and even an organ series. Across the street is the Lakefront Park on the St. Croix which is perfect for swimming at the beach.

Third Street Stroll

If you love to walk and enjoy old historic buildings, check out Third Street. It’s just 3 blocks from downtown and you’ll see a ton of historic homes built for town leaders in the 1800s. Check out The Octagon House from 1855, the home of Frederick Darling and the home of William Dwelley.

Seasons on St. Croix

Another cultural icon here is the Seasons on St. Croix, an art gallery featuring fine art and American crafts. They feature local art including work made of glass, fiber, clay and jewelry.

Commercial District

Another great option is the main street of Hudson featuring locally owned restaurants, bars and cafes.

Don’t miss Knoke’s Chocolates where you can get over 70 handmade truffles such as caramels, sea salted dark caramels and nostalgic ice cream. It’s located on Locust Street.

Don’t forget to check out Birkmose Park on Coulee Road for great views of the St. Croix River Valley while you’re here.
